concrete jungle d'bi.young anitafrika’s MA thesis at University of London, Goldsmiths, is a poetic movement-monodrama exploring ritual as recovery in the unfinished project of Emancipation. We watch as they sit, stand, walk, sleep, crawl, look, collect; all while navigating reality in the midst of an unapologetic historical narrative of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade and its devastating impact on the present. As Afrofuturism meets Dub poetry and Dub theatre in a state of mythic witchery, Concrete Jungle defies linearity of time and space, occupying an abstract suspension in our psyche through a soundscape of electronic Afro-spiritual dubs scored by Mohammed Rowe, asking us to question our participation in Liberation.
