The production of the biomyth monodrama was one of Watah’s mainstage productions in its Kincentric Theatre Season in 2026 and marked Dr. anitafrika’s first exploration of moving from pantodub to biomyth monodrama. Dr. anitafrika originally devised esu crossing the middle passage 2016 during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement. The piece emerged as a theatrical response to the enduring horrors of colonialism, enslavement, anti-Black violence, queerphobia, transphobia, classism, and Black beauty shame. The production gave Dr. anitafrika room to experiment with new formulations of African Dub Theatre.
